"WHEN WE
STAND TOGETHER
AS A COMMUNITY,
THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN'T
WITHSTAND TOGETHER
AS A COMMUNITY."
~Rev. Byron G. Marshall, Jr.
Founder & Executive Director of
Community Huddle
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a lifelong native, Reverend Byron George Marshall, Jr., credits his faith in God, mother, grandmother, and aunt for raising him. He grew up regularly attending Community Baptist Church of Greater Milwaukee (for which the "Community" in Huddle is derived) since age 3, and almost immediately knew early on in his life "a calling to serve" his community. Marshall spoke regularly in his church as a child on issues concerning youth and the community. As a product of his baptist church holistic ministry, Marshall recognized that his church were not only hearers of the word but also doers of the word. Inspired and mentored by his pastor, Rev. Dr. Roy B. Nabors, Marshall witnessed first hand the direct impact on the community, especially the poor and most vulnerable, his church had through their outreach and service which left an indelible impression for what would be his "life's work" to serve.
Aside from his previous tenure serving students and families in Milwaukee Public Schools, and wanting to expand on his calling to serve and effect change in the community, Marshall worked as a Deputy Field Organizer for Obama-for-Wisconsin, and SRD (Special Registered Deputy) in 2012, where he recruited volunteers to canvass and reach a large volume of voters, and registered voters during the 2012 presidential campaign; he served and organized for other local and state campaigns; participated in "Our Kids Count" Civil Rights March & Rally defending children's rights to public education in Milwaukee; serves as a mentor to empower children and youth to achieve their goals and pursue higher education; is and remains a tireless advocate for equity and peace; and continues to challenge the "status quo" by working to strengthen communities.
In 2017, then Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett appointed, and later current Mayor Cavalier Johnson reappointed, Marshall to serve on the City of Milwaukee Safety & Civic Commission where Marshall was also elected, by a majority vote of the commission, Safety & Civic Commission Chair. Marshall was also appointed to serve as a member of the City-County Carjacking and Reckless Driving Task Force, also serving on its Engineering Solutions Sub-Committee. In 2021, then Mayor Tom Barrett appointed, and later current Mayor Cavalier Johnson reappointed, Marshall to serve as a member of the City of Milwaukee Black Male Achievement Advisory Council (BMAAC). In 2023, Marshall was appointed by Gov. Tony Evers to serve on the Wisconsin National and Community Service Board (WNCSB). Marshall was appointed by Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley to serve a term beginning in January 2024 as an Adult Advisor on the Milwaukee County Youth Commission. He is an active member of the NAACP Milwaukee Branch (Unit 3254), and serves as the 3rd Vice President, and a member of its Political Action Committee. He serves on several boards and committees for prominent Milwaukee organizations. Marshall ran unsuccessfully for Milwaukee County Board Supervisor as a write-in candidate in the Spring of 2022, but found overall success with voter outreach within the district, especially among 18 year old voters, and earned their votes as first time voters.
Marshall is a Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) alumnus, attending John Marshall High School, and after transferring credits from John Marshall High School, he later earned his high school diploma from Lincoln Academy High School. He is an alumnus of Cardinal Stritch University, and served as a member on the Cardinal Stritch University Alumni Association Advisory Council. He earned his undergraduate degree in Business from Cardinal Stritch University's College of Business and Management, and the Urban Ministry Certificate from Cardinal Stritch University's Religious Studies Department. He was ordained on November 10, 2024 by Rev. Louis Sibley, and pursuing his Master of Divinity degree at Northern Seminary, IL. Reverend Marshall is a devoted husband and father, and author of two books.
